Before the insurer visits: a missing-record checklist
Unresolved accessions are less frightening when you can show the trail you already walked.
Insurers and loan partners ask simple questions that expose complicated registers: where is accession 2017.044, and can you show it? If the line is missing, panic helps no one. A short trail does.
Checklist we use on recovery passes
- Pull the schedule that still lists the asset (insurance, loan, or estate summary).
- Compare against the last three exports you can find.
- Search relocation notes, WhatsApp threads with storeroom staff, and renovation punch lists.
- Photograph current shelf marks in the zones most likely to hold the piece.
- Label the outcome: located, probable relocation, or unresolved โ with dates.
Why unresolved is acceptable
An honest unresolved line beats a guessed location. Guessed locations create new drift the moment someone looks for the object and fails.
When to call the desk
If the visit is inside two weeks and your trail is cold after a day of searching, a focused Missing Record Recovery Pass can take the schedule as the starting point and work backward while you handle the rest of the visit prep.
